As part of the Cyprus EU Presidency (first semester of 2026), the 6th International Conference Literacies and Contemporary Society: From Skills to Practices was held in Nicosia on February 24–25, 2026. This high-quality event was organized by the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute (Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth) in cooperation with the University of Cyprus.
Our faculty was represented by Dr. Tamás Lózsi and Dr. Zsombor M. Tóth, assistant professors in the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, who gave three presentations in English, in accordance with the conference requirements. In his presentation, Tamás Lózsi discussed the rhetoric of reading strategies (The Rhetoric of Reading Strategies), while Zsombor M. Tóth examined the processability of taboo topics using rhetorical devices through the analysis of contemporary song lyrics (Enter Sandman, Exit Silence. Rock Lyrics and the Rhetoric of Taboo Topics in Education). In their joint presentation, they demonstrated the presence and role of literary and rhetorical traditions by examining the advertising campaigns of telecommunications companies (Heroes, Villains, and Telecom Ads. The Rhetoric of Contemporary Storytelling).
